Nicholas Penny is Senior Curator of Sculpture at the National Gallery of Art, Washington. He is the author of many books, including The National Gallery Catalogue of Sixteenth-Century Italian Paintings, Volume I: Bergamo, Brescia and Cremona and The Materials of Sculpture; he is also coauthor of Raphael and coeditor of the forthcoming Collecting Sculpture in Early Modern Europe, all published by Yale University Press.
