Sheryl McFarlane didn’t expect to become a writer. As a young child she was too busy exploring nature to bury herself in books. Later, all that time spent outside inspired her IODE Award-winning picture book Waiting for the Whales, the perennial bestseller Jessie’s Island, and more than a dozen other thoughtful works for children. Sheryl lives on Canada’s west coast where she enjoys gardening, renovating old houses, and—of course—books. Sheryl’s grandchildren helped to inspire The Rocking Horse.François Thisdale's work blends traditional drawing and painting with digital imagery. He is the illustrator of Missing Nimama, which won the TD Canadian Children's Book Award. The Stamp Collector is on the IBBY Honor List, and That Squeak was honor book for the IBBY Canada Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Picture Book Award.
