This book is a consolidated memoir that offers an analysis on legal issues that emerge from the interaction of satellite applications and selected maritime activities e.g., navigation, safety, pollution, monitoring, fishing, law enforcement inter alia. Earth Observation (EO) satellites applications and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are the main focus of deliberation due to their rapid technological developments and extensive usage which attract constant debate and fertile legal discourse. A mosaic and interdisciplinary approach is embraced to draw information and understanding of technical aspects and branches of international law. A potpourri of legal questions is examined from a selective approach. First, the legal framework governing EO and GNSS satellites is discussed, then the legal justification for their use in maritime activities is established. Legal and policy issues that impede utilisation of satellite applications for maritime activities are identified. Solutions suggested and prescribed illuminate the importance of solving the emerging legal issues and offer food for through for new perspectives.
