Lebenslinien – Lifelines

Das künstlerische Werk von Renate Kordon umfasst ein polymorphes, mit Stilbegriffen kaum fassbares Spektrum von Techniken und Medien. Es reicht von der Zeichnung, von satirischen Comics und psychogrammatischen Bild- und Objektserien über Trickfilme bis zu Interventionen im öffentlichen Raum. Die Werkmonografie „Lebenslinien“ bietet erstmals eine Synopsis des über mehrere Jahrzehnte entwickelten Oeuvres - stets geprägt von Konflikten des Rationalen/Objektiven mit dem Surrealen/Subjektiven, des Materiellen mit dem Spirituellen, von der Verschiebung vordergründiger Realität in alternative Wirklichkeiten geistig-seelischer Zustände. Das Buch thematisiert in spezifischer Form inhaltliche Zusammenhänge und Verwandtschaften und präsentiert viele erstmals publizierte Zeichnungen, Comics, Storyboards, Arbeitsmodelle und Fotodokumente. Ein bisher verstreut rezipiertes Oeuvre, das im experimentellen Trickfilm und im Bereich der Rauminstallation zur internationalen Avantgarde zählt, erfährt so die gesamtheitliche Darstellung und Positionierung. The artistic work of Renate Kordon comprises a polymorphous spectrum of techniques and media that can hardly be defined in terms of common style concepts. It includes drawings as well as satirical comics and psychogrammatical picture and object series, animated films and interventions in public space. “Lebenslinien” (Lifelines) offers the first synopsis of her work, which has developed over a number of decades and has always been influenced by the conflict between what is rational/objective, the surreal/subjective, the material and the spiritual as well as the shift of what is real on the surface and the alternative reality of intellectual and emotional states. This volume takes on the theme of these contexts and relations and includes many hitherto unpublished comics, storyboards, work models and photo documents. In this way, an oeuvre that belongs to the international avant-garde in the fields of experimental animation and spatial installations, yet has long been perceived as scattered across many disciplines, is finally given a unifying exploration, rendering and positioning.
