Herzlich Willkommen!
Initially the publication Ich bin > Ich war by Adrian Sölch seems like a classic artist catalogue. An introductory text about artistic practice, photos documenting previous works, an artist interview – all mandatory criteria seem to be met. Only on closer inspection does it become clear that this assumption is only true to a limited extent. The interview becomes strangely personal in its course, shortly before it drifts completely into imagination. Poetic and supposedly factual texts address private problems on an almost identical level. Supposedly authentic documents overlap with fictional narrative structures. In the course of the book, a personal crisis seems to spread more and more across the pages. The attempt to correspond to an ideal image of masculinity dissolves the boundaries between a private individual, artistic position and poetic fiction and culminates in the desperate attempt to to turn himself into a colossus of Rhodes.
