Herzlich Willkommen!
Albert Schweitzer (1875–1965), doctor, theologian, philosopher and musician, worked as an assistant preacher and later as a private lecturer in Theology in Strasbourg from 1899. After the completion of his medical studies in 1913, Schweitzer ended his work in Strasbourg in order to work as missionary doctor in the tropical hospital in Lambarene (French Congo), which he himself founded. Schweitzer financed this hospital not only through royalties from his publications, but also with organ concerts of Bach’s works. He was a co-editor of Bach’s organ works and is considered a reformer of organ building. As a theologian, he concentrated his research on the significance of the Last Supper and on Jesus’ life.
