Plinius der Jüngere (1./2. Jh. n. Chr.) zählt mit seiner Sammlung von insgesamt zehn Briefbüchern zu den wichtigsten Vertretern der lateinischen Epistolographie. Sowohl seine Briefe an verschiedene Korrespondenten (Buch 1–9) als auch sein Briefwechsel mit Kaiser Trajan (Buch 10) geben Einblicke in das soziale, kulturelle und politische Leben der römischen Kaiserzeit. Pliny the Younger (first/second century CE), with his collection of ten books of letters in total, was one of the most important representatives of Latin epistolography. Both his letters to various correspondents (books 1–9) and his correspondence with Emperor Trajan (book 10) provide insights into social, cultural, and political life during the Roman Empire.
