Atene e il sacco di Silla

The work investigates the building history of Athens between the siege and ransacking by Sulla in 86 BC and the establishment of the province of Archaia in AD 27. After an introductory chapter about the historical background of the event, each one of the following chapters analyses a different area of the city. Furthermore, the rich appendixes either provide an integration to the main topic or collect sources and materials. On the basis of the present study, which analysed destructions and restorations of the buildings of the entire city within the fortification wall with special reference to the main complexes, it is now possible to shed new light on the ransacking process and to restore the image of the city before the augustan building policy. Die Arbeit untersucht die Stadt Athen mit besonderer Aufmerksamkeit auf die Hauptkomplexe und bezieht sich auf einen beschränkten Zeitraum, der mit der Belagerung der Stadt durch L. Cornelius Sulla im Jahre 86 v. Chr. beginnt und mit der Machtergreifung Augustus im Jahre 27 v. Chr. endet. Nach einer historischen Einordnung des Themas im ersten Kapitel beschäftigen sich die nachfolgenden Fachkapitel je mit einem Teil der Stadt. Außerdem umfassen die zahlreichen Anhängen entweder Untersuchungen einzelner Gebiete, die eine Ergänzung zu den Hauptkomplexen bieten, oder Quellen und Befunde. Die Untersuchung der im Zuge der Plünderung entstandenen Zerstörungen, der Restaurierungen und des Wiederaufbaus wirft ein neues Licht auf den Ablauf der Plünderung und erlaubt den Zustand der Stadt vor den Baueingriffen der augusteischen Zeit zu rekonstruieren, und einen Eindruck des Gesamtbildes von Athen in der letzten Periode vor der Kaiserzeit zu gewinnen.
